Tavira

Cycled to town of Tavira today – about 4 miles away; absolutely loved it – reminded me of St Martin de Re on Ile de Re in France, but alot less understated. The buildings are beautiful. Also am realising that it’s great to be enjoying this weather now in May – around 25..

Into Portugal; Cabanas: Camping Rio Formosa

Easy journey from Dos Hermanos, near Seville, to just across the border and into the Algarve, staying at the above campsite, without electricity, for an extremely reasonable price, even including a discount for the ASCI card.

Must give campsite a plug, for its location – just 1km down..

Seville; Camping Villsom

Well – indeed a fabulous city to visit – nice campsite to stay at at town called Dos Hermanos; half-hourly air-conditioned (very welcome, even at mid to late 20’s) bus within 50 metres of the site for the sum of 1.70eu.

There was a feria day on Wednesday and the obviously..

Cadiz; Camping Playa Las Dunas

Wanted to see this city, so stayed at the above campsite across the bay at Puerta de Santa Maria and got the water ferry from there – about 30 min crossing for 2.75 euro. Enjoyed doing a 2-hour walking tour around the centre. Can see the naval influences, some of the buildings reminded me..

Andalucia – Olvera: Via Verde de La Sierra

Stayed on Camping La Puebla Blanca, just outside Olvera, cycled the Via Verde to El Coripe station – gorgeous route to see Andalucian countryside in the Spring; nb – very steep to cycle down to the track, and it’s downhill to El Coripe, hence uphill the 21km back, plus then another..

Karen & Ivan

I met Karen and Ivan from Beverley on a campsite at Olvera. They have been travelling since January, getting down to the Rio Jara campsite outside Tavira, to observe the returning bird migration from Africa. It was great to see the vultures nesting via their fantastic telescope, and learn more about..

Spanish Semana Santa (Easter)

Whilst I would describe my preferred expression of christian communal worship as informal and contemporary, over the years I have gained an appreciation of the contribution ritual and tradition can make to spiritual life. So on encountering, completely unenvisaged, the Easter Sunday procession in..

Carol & Dave

Carol and Dave, a couple of New Zealanders spending a year travelling round Europe in their british motorhome which they bought in the UK for the purpose, and which they’re going to ship back to NZ, so need to get back to the UK for this by mid June. I met them on a local village tour, Rustiques,..
